LEESBURG, Va. — Responding to widespread requests, Omnilert is broadening its Secure Schools Grant Program to include 50 schools, more than double the original count.
The program was designed to provide complete access for three years to Omnilert Gun Detect, the company’s AI-driven firearm recognition tool. Schools chosen will receive all software features and support at no charge.
A partnership with BCD makes this expansion possible. BCD will act as hardware sponsor and deliver surveillance equipment to each campus without any fees, allowing districts to move swiftly toward installation and cutting budgets for safety upgrades.
“The overwhelming response to the grant program made one thing clear: schools across the country are actively seeking better ways to protect their students,” says Dave Fraser, CEO of Omnilert, in the company announcement. “We couldn’t turn away schools that are taking a stand for safety,” he says. “Expanding this program is more than a response—it’s a reflection of our mission to stamp out school gun violence through innovation and action.”
Jim Gross, CEO of BCD, offered his thoughts on the new collaboration. “We are proud to partner with Omnilert on this critical initiative,” he says. “Enabling schools to quickly deploy cutting-edge safety technology is one of the most meaningful ways we can use our expertise to make a real difference.”
The 50 winning schools represent a mix of public and private institutions from urban centers to suburban districts, alongside rural campuses. Each location will benefit from:
- A three-year complimentary license for Omnilert Gun Detect
- Professional assistance for deployment and configuration
- Dedicated staff training sessions and ongoing customer support
- Smooth integration with current security and alert systems
Omnilert Gun Detect relies on advanced algorithms to scan live video feeds and identify visible firearms in real time. Alerts reach administrators and law enforcement instantly, often before any shots are discharged.
Webinars to introduce the awarded schools to the system will begin in late June. Equipment installation is scheduled in phases through summer and fall of 2025, setting the stage for rapid adoption at every participating district.
