CARMEL, Ind.—Allegion US, a provider of security solutions, technology and services, has launched its Outdoor Defense (OUT) option for 98/99 exit devices. The company stresses it is the first Von Duprin model designed to maintain device functionality in outdoor conditions, delivering the quality, reliability and performance associated with the brand. As part of Allegion’s broader exit device lineup, OUT integrates seamlessly with existing 98/99 systems.

The Outdoor Defense access control option provides a barrier against moisture, sudden temperature changes and corrosion in exterior settings. It is available for the popular 98/99 Series rim and surface vertical rod exit devices. Von Duprin notes that this enhancement is built to preserve device functionality. It covers mechanical panic hardware and a suite of electronic accessories such as switches, latch retraction, delayed/controlled egress, alarm kits and more. Outdoor Defense products meet rigorous test parameters for use in areas like courtyards, perimeter fencing, rooftop decks and patios. They are subjected to salt spray and freeze/thaw testing to validate dependable operation under harsh weather cycles.
Von Duprin offers multiple electrical configurations that work with the Outdoor Defense option. Configurations include latch retraction (QEL), alarmed exits (ALK), delayed/controlled egress (CX) and monitoring (RX and LX). These variants give dealers and their customers a broad selection of security upgrades suited to specific project requirements.
