COPENHAGEN—Under a collaborative effort, Milestone Systems and Axis Communications have merged their access control and video surveillance solutions to create a unified platform. Milestone Systems, a global developer of data-driven video solutions, has introduced AXIS Secure Entry for XProtect. This all-in-one application merges access control with video surveillance on the open-platform video management system, XProtect. Users can access the solution through the XProtect Smart Client.
Customers can install and update AXIS Secure Entry for XProtect alongside AXIS Optimizer using the XProtect Update Manager. Axis will be the first third-party vendor with software installation available through this update tool. This streamlined process aims to simplify deployment and maintenance for system administrators. Axis designed the solution to receive patches and upgrades through the same manager, so environments remain up to date.

AXIS Secure Entry for XProtect gives users the ability to track, assist with, and investigate door entry events and automate related actions. The solution supports live and recorded video review alongside other access control functions, the company explains.
By combining access control and surveillance in the XProtect Smart Client, operators avoid toggling between different systems. They can oversee and manage door activity from a unified interface. Milestone Systems and Axis Communications say this setup keeps teams alert to real-time events and supports more informed, coordinated, and prompt responses.
Milestone Systems notes that AXIS Secure Entry for XProtect offers features for door entry control, event monitoring, assistance, and investigative workflows. The application synchronizes cameras with door hardware, so operators can align cardholder images with live or archived video. The platform can handle up to 1,000 doors on a single server, support 64 servers in a multi-server network, and manage as many as 50,000 credentials.
Users gain more functionality that runs within and is designed for XProtect. Features include automatic door entry triggers via the XProtect Rules Engine, vehicle access control through the Smart Client, and streamlined handling of door entry and intercom calls. AXIS Optimizer connects surveillance with AI-driven data analysis, forensic search, audio capture, body-worn footage, digital evidence management, and more.
Derek Wang, product manager for access control at Axis Communications, said the company will continue adding advanced Axis access control features into XProtect. He noted that integrating door access with video surveillance in one platform will deliver significant benefits for customers running Axis-Milestone systems.
Milestone Systems plans to demonstrate the new integration at the Global Security Exchange (GSX) 2025 in New Orleans, running from September 29 through October 1 at booth #719. The company will host live demos and offer technical briefings at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center during the event.
